Join the WIT Women Business Owners Special Interest Group (WBO SIG) and for an evening of Aerospace-A Frontier for Opportunity. If you are designing your start-up idea, you may want to consider the world of satellites, space exploration, and the newest space tourism arena. During this interactive and dynamic seminar, you will be guided through the A, B, C’s of how to launch your start-up idea. As an important piece of your entrepreneurial journey, you will identify your value proposition, leverage your network to create your (MVP) minimal Viable Product, and walk away with a strategy for launch. This session will provide a jumpstart on putting clarity around your vision and goals through an interactive Q & A with leaders in the field.

The session includes refreshments, networking, featured presentation, and working sessions.
The session is designed to be interactive and educational with take-away action items for the next steps.

Speakers

LaTisha Durham, Avionics Engineer, Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River
Ms. Durham is currently the Integrated Navigation, Controls and Displays Systems Level 3 Lead for the Navy’s E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft.  Latisha is Level III certified in Systems Planning, Research, Development & Engineering- Systems Engineering (SPRDE –SE) in the DAWIA program. She is also certified to Level I in SPRDE – Program Management.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and received her Master of Engineering Degree in Systems Engineering from Iowa State University. Latisha shares her expertise in public and private forums to encourage women and girls to pursue STEM careers. She has been a keynote speaker at US News and World Report National Leadership Conference and the National Press Club on behalf of US News’ Workforce of Tomorrow. Latisha serves on The Pearl Project Institute for Innovation in STEM Board of Directors to nurture and guide the next generation of Aerospace and STEM influencers.

Diana Alsindy, Propulsion Development Engineer with Virgin Orbit
Ms. Alsindy is currently a Propulsion Development Engineer at Virgin Orbit, working on Stage Systems of LauncherOne a satellite payload delivery rocket. Throughout her years as a Chemical Engineering student at UC San Diego, she describes her calling as contributing to the goal of exploring outer space. A space enthusiast who likes to build, fire and integrate rocket engines into spacecraft, she is at the forefront the commercial space exploration with the Virgin Orbit company. Specifically, she has worked on projects that advance commercial space transportation and infrastructure. Diana was the Propulsion Team Lead in the (SEDS) Students for the Exploration and Development of Space researching propulsion thrusters. As the lead for the propulsion team, she designed the CubeSat, Triteia – the first ever built to go to lunar orbit with a chemical propulsion system, powered by a 3D printed thruster named Callan. Ms. Alsindy is a champion of the Pearl Project Institute’s “Tell-A-Girl” campaigned launched in 2019.

Robin McDougal is the 2017-2019 Chair of Women Business Owner SIG and CEO of a technology accessories company, e-GLAM, Inc. After starting a business with pocket change and a dream, she has learned first-hand that there is a difference between running a small business and steering a thriving enterprise. She has specialized in data analysis, market intelligence, and impact strategy to bring products to market. She attended George Mason University in the Executive MBA program in Global Business. When she is not growing her business, she indulges her passion for philanthropy. As President and CEO of Advancing Synergy, LLC, Dr. Arti Patel Varanasi is passionate about developing innovations that empower all individuals to lead healthier and longer lives. She has over 25 years combined experience in cancer research, advocacy, capacity building, health care, public health and project management. Dr. Varanasi’s ultimate goal is to work across sectors to “advance synergy” and develop tools and technologies that help to build sustainable health capacity in resource limited settings. Dr. Varanasi received her PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and MPH from the Johns Hopkins University. She is a graduate of the National Science Foundation funded ACTiVATE® program for women technology entrepreneurs. Dr. Varanasi has a long-standing track record of advocacy, mentoring and empowerment.
