Empowering Women in Technology: From the Classroom to the Boardroom

Women in Technology (WIT) is a regional 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to advancing women in technology careers in the DC metro area. Despite the growing demand for tech professionals, women remain underrepresented. At WIT, we're committed to changing that narrative. Since 1994, our community has empowered women through education, mentoring, and professional growth, fostering an inclusive and innovative technology industry for all. WIT continues to grow its membership by raising awareness of the important issues facing all women in technology and related areas through publicity, strategic alliances, access to corporate sponsors and strong member involvement. ​

Our Mission

Our mission is to support and empower women at every stage of their journey in tech, from the classroom to the boardroom. Through educational programming, formal mentoring programs, and informal networking, WIT members find new ways to connect, lead, and succeed.  Here’s how we’re making a difference:

1. Educational Foundation. We are committed to providing educational opportunities and encourage school-aged girls to start developing an interest in Technology fields. Our programs are designed to inspire and equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in technology. From coding workshops to scholarships, we ensure that young women have the foundation they need to succeed.
2. Career Advancement. Supporting women in their career progression is at the heart of what we do. We offer mentorship programs, professional development workshops, and networking opportunities to help women advance from entry-level positions to roles with greater responsibility and influence. Our goal is to foster an environment where women can thrive and grow in their tech careers.
3. Leadership Representation. We advocate for greater representation of women in executive and boardroom positions within the tech industry. We aim to break down barriers and promote gender diversity at the highest levels of decision-making. We believe that diverse leadership teams drive innovation and success.
4. Overcoming Barriers. We recognize the challenges women often face in the tech industry, such as gender bias and lack of support. Our initiatives are designed to address these challenges head-on, providing women with the tools, confidence, and opportunities they need to overcome obstacles and achieve their career goals. By fostering a supportive community, we help women navigate and succeed in the tech world.

Impact

Serving over 1000 members, WIT provides a wide range of programming. From in-person panels and presentations to online webinars to social gatherings to formal mentoring and training programs, WIT has the right event to support the next career step for women at all stages of the technology career.
