Corporate Board Committee - Steering Committee

Corporate Board Committee

The mission of The Leadership Foundry is to increase board gender diversity in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC through three guiding principles: Train and Prepare, Support and Advocate, and Report and Inform.

Train and Prepare:

The Leadership Foundry is a nine-month program that includes intensive training and networking events to prepare women to serve on corporate boards.

Support and Advocate:

The committee advocates on behalf of the cause and works with local companies to match appropriate graduates from the program to meet board requirements.

Report and Inform:

The committee, through its partnership with American University’s Kogod School of Business, conducts annual research on the state of board gender diversity in publicly traded companies in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC. Research findings are used to demonstrate the tangible financial benefits to companies with women serving on their boards. Board gender diversity is critical to the success of companies to maintain a competitive advantage.

Steering Committee

The Leadership Foundry’s Steering Committee includes six to ten senior executives who provide guidance on program policies, operations, participant selections, and participant training/networking resources to support The Leadership Foundry’s ultimate goal of increasing the number of women on corporate boards in the Washington, DC area.

There are two types of members that participate on this committee: Steering Committee Directors and Selection Committee Members.

  • Steering Committee Directors actively serve on at least one corporate board and are expected to attend at least two of the three Steering Committee meetings each year and at least two of the participant networking or training events.
  • Selection Committee Members are not required to serve on a corporate board but are expected to attend at least two of the participant networking or training events.

All members of the Steering Committee review program applicants and select program participants. In addition, all members may be asked to facilitate contacts to ensure the success of the program by recruiting partners, recommending speakers and leading one-on-one sessions with program participants.

Steering committee members are not being recruited at this time. If you would like more information about the Steering Committee, please contact the WIT Corporate Board Committee Chair.
