Describe your industry experience:
I have 19 years of experience in the software development industry, serving in many roles from individual contributor to executive leader across multiple departments, including technical support, professional services, real estate, and information systems.

Describe your functional experience:
My functional experience includes, working closely with cross-functional staff and executives to improve business processes, analytics, service quality, project delivery, and P&L performance of the business units.  

When I led Information Systems and Real Estate at MicroStrategy, I provided vision and leadership for information systems, SaaS offerings, and real estate programs to ensure productive and profitable execution of corporate and customer initiatives. I owned a $50M information systems annual budget and led 127 employees located in South America, North America, Europe, and China.

When I led Services Operations at MicroStrategy, my primary focus was to improve profitability and predictability of the $65M revenue generating consulting and education business units.  I led a team of ten employees who enabled 400 consultants, educators, and technical support engineers to deliver results to our clients in a consistent and profitable manner.

Currently, I manage a corporate initiative to proliferate Appian software into every core process with a mission to improve operational maturity, customer service, and Appian’s software platform.

Describe your key business transactional experience:

  • Negotiated and established enterprise agreements with VMWare ($1.5M) and AT&T ($3.3M) saving $2.5M over three years
  • Negotiated terms and pricing with Equinix ($7.2M) and Abovenet ($1.8M) to establish a collocation facility    
  • Orchestrated a $1M project to consolidate and migrate three on-premise data centers to Equinix    
  • Managed an 800-person headquarters relocation, office space build-out, and IT installations on schedule and within $18M budget    
  • Improved Consulting P&L by $1M between Q4 2008 and Q2 2009 using cost and forecast management
  • Improved Consulting and Education revenue forecasting accuracy to within 0.5% of $65M annual revenue forecast by establishing analytics to evaluate submissions, training management on best practices, and establishing business processes to ensure risks are identified and resolved promptly    
  • Launched a quarterly evaluation process for Professional Services including 300 employees    
  • Established an information system governance process and committee with senior executives ensuring alignment of projects with corporate initiatives    
  • Established Agile SDLC methodology to ensure consistent delivery of information systems using globally distributed teams

What is the most important skill you bring to a corporate board?
I have a strong understanding of the processes that make up a software company including software development, sales of software and professional services, delivery of services, and the human resources management needed for success.   My breadth of understanding would be useful to any small to medium size software company wishing to grow from a local company to a global company with customers and delivery centers distributed around the world.
