This SOS event offers girls an opportunity to talk Cybersecurity with ex
hibitors from local organizations, universities and companies (including AT
&T!).
Girls will be able to ask questions of exhibitors such
as "What do the cybersecurity professionals in your organization do on a d
ay-to-day basis?" "What education and background does your organization loo
k for when deciding who to accept or hire?" "How does your organization sup
port girls who are interested in cybersecurity careers?"
The SOS
will also allow girls an opportunity to meet and network with professional
women (including from AT&T!) who have turned their love for technology
into successful careers in these fields.
Students will particip
ate in an interactive panel discussion with distinguished women in cybersec
urity.
The girls also get an opportunity to win cool prizes and
giveaways.
This public program is available to girls in the Wash
ington, DC metropolitan area. Our SOS events typically draw 75-125 girls an
d their parents.
The SOS program is free for students and is mad
e possible by Stem for Her and the generosity of corporate sponsors such as
Amazon! A light dinner will be provided.
Speakers:
Michaela James
Michaela James is an 8
th grade student at Maret School in Washington, DC. Michaela is enrolled in
the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) working towards an Associ
ate of Applied Science Degree in Cybersecurity. Michaela chose CCBC because
it allows 7th and 8th graders to enroll, and its Cybersecurity Program is
a certified Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense by the National
Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS.
Kayla Farrow
Kayla Farrow is CEO, founder, and re
search scientist at Semicyber, LLC, a startup that specializes in quantum a
lgorithm development and data analytics for mission-critical challenges. Sh
e is also a digital signal processing (DSP) engineer at Zeta Associates, In
c. where she develops algorithms for the detection and exploitation of miss
ion collection and processing systems.
Kerinne Browne
Kerinne Browne is a Senior Cybersecurity Program Manager on the
Customer Experience and Engineering Team at Microsoft. She focuses on Azur
e Sentinel, the first cloud-native SIEM and Azure Security Center, a cloud
workload protection and security posture management tool. She began her car
eer at Microsoft over 8 years ago specializing in infrastructure monitoring
and security strategy, enabling businesses to achieve their security goals
. Kerinne is also a member of the Women in Technology Board of Directors.
Angela Robinson
Angela Robinson holds degre
es from: Baylor University and Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Angela al
so holds a Cyber Security Graduate Certificate and participated in the Nava
l Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP). Angela is currently a Mat
hematician in the Computer Security Division of the National Institute of S
tandards and Technology (NIST) and is working on the Post Quantum Cryptogra
phy Standardization project and other research areas designed to ensure use
r privacy and security in a digital world.
