Category: The Leadership Foundry

The Leadership Foundry, WIT and American University invite you to see how our region fares in gender board diversity.

We’ll learn about the importance of gender diversity in corporate leadership positions in the boardroom and why companies need diversity to succeed. Our speaker, Caren Merrick, will also share finding her first board position, her experience serving on corporate boards as well as the challenges she faced and how they were overcome. Caren Merrick is an entrepreneur in tech (zero to $200m) and social impact and a board director for public and private companies with combined assets of $11B and revenues of $2.5B.  She writes about the technologies and insights that help people, teams, and companies grow. Her path to the boardroom is riveting.

Since 2010, The Leadership Foundry has described how board gender diversity moves at a glacial pace in our region.  The key to keeping the momentum requires sustained focus on key themes, including: control the narrative, govern boards intentionally and elevate women to board positions of "power."

Learn how our region fares with women on corporate boards when we unveil the research findings for the ninth year. Women play a major role in corporate leadership and should do more. Yet, the number of women serving on corporate boards in the US remains low. Are we moving the needle in DC?

Each year in partnership with American University, we produce a research report that does a census of the number of women serving on the boards of publicly traded companies in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC. The report looks at current literature about the effects of board gender diversity and the current trends.

The Leadership Foundry, a signature program of Women in Technology, prepares women to serve on corporate boards.
