The Leadership Foundry and WIT are passionate about increasing the number of women on corporate boards in our region. We invite you to Keep the Conversation Going. Come and hear our distinguished panel discuss: finding their first board position; their experiences serving on the board; the challenges they faced and how they overcame them; the benefits to companies with women serving and why boards need diversity to succeed.

There will be networking before and after the address. The registration fee includes wine, beer, beverages and hors d’oeuvres. The location is Metro accessible.

Speakers

Carol Coughlin is an accomplished C-suite executive and experienced public company director, known for her skills in financial strategy, turnaround and profitability improvements, scaling for growth, risk assessment, M&A, managing change and cultivating highly motivated teams in high growth environments.

Equally comfortable with entrepreneurship as with the complexity of large corporate environments, she launched BottomLine Growth Strategies, a growth advisory service firm helping companies transform enterprise value.

Coughlin has served on a number of boards including public, private, government, non-profits and advisory.  She Chairs the Hamilton Bancorp board, a community bank with over $500MM in assets, and was previously Audit Committee Chair. She was on the board through conversion to public company through IPO. In addition, she serves on the board of University of Maryland Medical Center (Financial Affairs Chair), an academic medical center with over $1B in revenues, and the Maryland 529 Board, which governs over $5BB in assets.

Janet Hill is a principal with Hill Family Advisors in Fairfax, Virginia. She previously was owner and vice president of Alexander & Associates, Inc., a corporate consulting firm in Washington, D.C., providing corporate planning, advice, and analyses to directors, executives, and managers in the areas of human resource planning, corporate responsibility, corporate communications, and government consultation. Formerly, she was special assistant to the Secretary of the Army and a research mathematician for a consulting firm serving the United States Navy. She has also taught mathematics at the high school and collegiate levels.

Mrs. Hill received a bachelor of arts from Wellesley College in 1969, and a master of arts in mathematics from the University of Chicago Graduate School in 1972.

Mrs. Hill is a member of the corporate boards of Dean Foods, Inc., Carlyle Group and Esquire Bank. She has non-profit board affiliations with The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts appointed by President Obama and Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts. In addition, Mrs. Hill is a former chairwoman of the Women's Campaign Fund, the only bipartisan national PAC raising money for women running for federal, state, and local offices.

Elected to the Duke University Board of Trustees in 2006, Mrs. Hill serves on the Undergraduate Education Committee, the Governance Committee, The Future of Central Campus Task Force, and chairs the Committee on Honorary Degrees.

Mrs. Hill served as a member of the Board of Visitors of the Fuqua School of Business at Duke. She and her husband, Calvin, chaired the Parents Committee in the early 1990s when their son, Grant, was a Duke undergraduate. The Hills reside in Great Falls, Virginia.

Leslie Ireland is on the Board of Directors of Citigroup, Inc.  She offers insight and perspectives on financial threats face by organizations in the public and private sectors, including cybersecurity and money laundering.  Her expertise in protecting IT systems from internal and external cybersecurity threats, and setting and evaluating organizational risks, helps enhance the Board’s oversight of cybersecurity and risk management practices.  She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Stimson Center, a non-partisan policy research center working to resolve the world’s greatest threats to security and prosperity.   Ms. Ireland retired from Federal service in November 2016 after 31 years in the Intelligence Community.  She was the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Intelligence and Analysis from 2010-2016 and took the Presidential appointment at Treasury after 25 years at CIA.  Notable assignments there included President Obama’s daily intelligence briefer during the transition in 2008 and through the first year of his Administration, and the first DNI Iran Mission Manager, where she was responsible for overseeing the intelligence process on Iran for the entire US government.  Ms. Ireland is the recipient of the Alexander Hamilton Award, the highest award bestowed by the Secretary of the Treasury, the Intelligence Community Seal Medallion, personally awarded by the DNI, the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal (2016 and 2008), and the CIA Intelligence Commendation Medal. She is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and Georgetown University.


Donna Morea
is the retired President of CGI Technologies and Solutions, where she led CGI’s multi-billion dollar IT and business process services in the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific.  Her clients included many of the world’s largest and most complex organizations in federal and state and local government; healthcare; and financial services.  

She currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of SAIC (NYSE:SAIC), a leading provider of information technology and engineering services to government, and on the Board of Directors of SunTrust Banks, Inc. (NYSE:STI), one of the nation's largest banking organizations.  She is also an Operating Advisor to the Carlyle Group.  She serves on the boards of 3 Carlyle portfolio companies - NetHealth, KLDiscovery and Accelerated Learning - and on the board of GCOM Software, a provider of IT software and services to the state and local government market.

Deeply committed to giving back to the community, Donna is the Chair of the Board of Trustees of Wesleyan University, her alma mater; Director of Share our Strength, a national organization fighting childhood hunger in the US; and a Trustee of the Inova Health System, the largest healthcare system in Northern Virginia, serving over 2 million patients annually. She is a Chair Emerita of the Northern Virginia Technology Council, the nation's largest technology council with over 1000 member companies, representing over 300,000 employees in the region.  

In 2001, she and her husband indulged their passion all things Italian and launched an e-business, selling fine Italian olive oil over the Internet, at olio2go.com

Ms. Mindi McClure has served as one of our independent directors since June 2017.  She is Chairman and CEO of VisionBank, headquartered in Greater Washington, DC. She served from 2006 to 2018 as the principal shareholder of Democracy Funding LLC, a registered broker-dealer and its affiliates focused on providing capital markets and advisory services to government agencies including the United States Department of Treasury and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation as well as to private sector financial services and real estate companies.  Ms. McClure serves of the board of directors of Arlington Asset Investment Corp. (NYSE: AI), a publicly traded mortgage REIT focused primarily on purchasing residential mortgage backed securities, a position she has held since 2018.  Ms. McClure served on the board of directors of the Bank of Georgetown, a privately held community bank headquartered in Washington, D.C. from its inception in 2005 to its sale to United Bank in 2016.  While a director of the Bank of Georgetown she served as the chairman of the strategic planning committee, and as a member of the compensation committee.  Ms. McClure served in numerous positions at FBR & Co, an investment bank, from 1991 to 2006 including, as senior managing director of investment banking where she focused on providing capital markets and advisory services to middle market financial services and real estate companies.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Richmond.
