For the last couple of years, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) has been one of the lead news stories in the IT industry. Vendors, consultants, and industry analysts declared SOA as the next great wave in IT systems development. But recently a growing choir of expert voices is debating the question, "Is SOA dead?" So, what is the current status of SOA development efforts? Is there a future for SOA?
Internationally known SOA thought leader David Linthicum will lead a panel of experts in exploring the issues surrounding SOA: present and future. The panelists will roll-up their sleeves and attempt to address the SOA concerns facing the industry:
- Have the SOA principles been melted into the pot with other systems architectures (client server, Web based, etc.)?
- Has SOA become an enabler for your Enterprise Architecture?
- What about cloud computing?
- How does it fit into or leverage the SOA design principles?
Panelists Include:
- Susie Adams, CTO, Microsoft Federal Civilian Government Business
- Henry Chao, CTO, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
- Linda Y. Cureton, CIO, NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center
- David Linthicum, Founder, SOA consulting firm David S. Linthicum, LLC
Moderator: David Kelly, Information Assurance Solutions Director, Citizant

When we do make it onto corporate Boards, important information and resources are not readily available. The WIT Women on Boards program was developed in partnership with The Leaders Edge and is designed to help senior-level women develop a realistic understanding of the issues and experience needed by corporate boards. This exclusive 2-day seminar enhances the leadership understanding and value of the woman who attends, and benefits her company or organization by positioning her for further leadership roles and opportunities.
Seminar participants will benefit by:
- Gaining perspective and practical advice from current Board Members and CEOs
- Learning about the responsibilities and obligations of Board Members
- Learning quick tips for analyzing the financial health of a company
- Understanding board compensation
- Accurately assessing their own Board skills
- Developing a personal marketing strategy for achieving Board positions
- Identifying the resources available to assist in executing a personal marketing strategy
Learn from corporate Board Members, CEOs and other experts on what you should ask before you say, “yes.”

Pros in Marketing/Sales/Editing Needed: Help Launch the WIT “Bunyan Book” and Learn Leadership Secrets of WIT Award Winners
WIT has identified the "Bunyan Book" as an initiative for this year. This book — profiles of women who have been honored with a WIT Leadership award — is not only underway; it's going full steam ahead.
Why this project at this time? May 2009 marks WIT's 10th Leadership Awards ceremony and the 15th anniversary of WIT — so the timing couldn't be better for interviewing and profiling every winner of the past WIT Leadership Awards, from 1999 to 2009. We aim for the book to:
- Inspire other women and girls with these stories of leadership.
- Continue to honor the women WIT has recognized with the WIT Leadership Awards.
- Raise awareness for WIT and elevate the WIT brand.
We have an immediate need for volunteers to join our Marketing/PR subcommittee:
- Develop a marketing plan, work on online promotion, create buzz, reach out to media, schedule events, help spread the word about the book, etc.
Volunteers are also needed to assist with Sales/Distribution:
- Determine how WIT will bring the book to market — coordinate orders and distribution to get the book in the hands of readers.
And we need two to three people to help with editing, starting now:
- Review submitted manuscripts and "finesse" into publication-ready quality.
Here’s what you’ll get in exchange: an insider's view of these women's leadership secrets and insights, and your name in the acknowledgments.
Contact Charlotte Pelliccia charlotte@pelliccia.biz or Marguerete Luter mluter@bellatlantic.net to learn more about the Marketing/PR and Sales/Distribution subcommittees.
Contact Joanne Lozar Glenn joannelozarglenn@verizon.net about the Editing subcommittee by noon, April 20 — and reserve 5:30 p.m. on that date for a 30- to 60-minute conference call to kick off the process.
