Executive Women SIG: Spa Event
Join the Executive Women’s SIG for a half-day at the spa! Soothe tired muscles and dry winter skin with an array of spa services available from the Natural Body Spa, a green spa located in Arlington, VA. We’ll be serving delicious natural food along with wine for you to enjoy so that you may relax and do some networking. February WIT.Connect: Unified Communications — Does It Deliver on Its Promise?
Enterprises face continuous change as we move toward a more virtual world. You don’t just use communication tools at the office or at home. Today we’re connecting in the office, at home, in the car, while travelling on vacation, while having lunch in a restaurant, or even in bed. And businesses are becoming more and more virtual. We aren’t necessarily confined to one physical office or address; the business might be running with many decentralized locations, some of which may exist only online. And as we become more virtual our communication tools struggle to keep pace. We have different hardware and software for phones, fax, email, voicemail, instant messaging, videoconferencing, and web conferencing. It makes us all crazy. Leadership Awards Call for Volunteers The 2009 Leadership Awards Banquet marks the 10th anniversary of the prestigious awards program that recognizes women who have demonstrated leadership in the local technology industry. This annual event honors the women in greater Washington who exemplify the WIT values of "Connect. Lead. Succeed." in their professional endeavors. The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 21, at the Hilton McLean. Women in Technology is now seeking volunteers interested in serving on the planning committee. If you are new to WIT or looking for an opportunity to become involved in the organization, this is your chance! We are looking for creative, energized individuals to help plan this memorable event, which will mark a decade of recognizing and celebrating women in leadership. WIT has jumped in the fray, joining the business-oriented social networking site, LinkedIn. With more than 30 million registered users spanning 150 countries, LinkedIn is the most well-known and respected social networking site for business users. The site receives more than 3.2 million unique visitors per month. LinkedIn's mission is to "help you be more effective in your daily work and open doors to opportunities using the professional relationships you already have." Be Part of a New and Exciting WIT Project: The WIT "Bunyan Book" Team Needs Volunteers WIT has identified the "Bunyan Book" as an initiative for this year. The Bunyan Book is a project that started to take shape at the WIT Leadership Awards Banquet in May 2008. As she shared the stories of our Leadership Award Winners, Maureen Bunyan, the event's emcee, became increasingly inspired and interested in the women being honored. She commented, "There are so many wonderful stories here; you should write a book. And I'll write the foreword." Well, the organization took her comment seriously and decided to explore this possibility. May, 2009 marks WIT's 10th Leadership Awards ceremony and the 15th anniversary of WIT — so the timing couldn't be better. Our goal is to interview and profile every winner of the past WIT Leadership Awards, from 1999 to 2009, in order:
